Earthquake

So if you guys watched the news yesterday, there was a pretty big quake here in Java. The city that's closest to the epicentre is Tasikmalaya. It's about 100km away from the epicentre. If i'm not wrong, Bandung's less than a 100km away from Tasik. Good thing is, we're up at the mountains, further from sea level compared to Jakarta, which is further from Tasik, but could feel the quake more. This is the worst quake Bandung has ever experienced, and it's my first. Usually when there's one, I couldn't even feel it. But this time, it was terrible. What you see on the news and pictures are true. Those happened in some parts of Java.

I was in front of the computer and all of a sudden, I heard sounds and felt vibrations. I thought it was raining hailstones... but then I realized it wasn't. Everything was shaking pretty badly and I hid under the table. After about half a minute, it stopped and I got out of the house. Everyone was out by then. Telecommunication was cut off. I actually wanted to go pick my siblings up before that. But I felt kind of lazy, so I waited for a while. Good thing I did, if not i would've been in the car and might be on the fly-over, which would be dangerous cuz if the car's going fast and there's an earthquake, it might topple. People were crying and shouting. My maid cried out of shock and panick. cuz she was at my parents' shop. Her brother who works at my shop was working at the 4th floor and things were falling off the shelves. My dad said he was shaking really badly when he came down, pulling his sister with him. The whole street was packed with people, cuz they were all standing on the middle of the road. Cars stopped and people just stayed there. Then there was the second one, but it wasn't as bad as the first one. I didn't really feel it.

After about 20 mins, I went to pick up my siblings. They were all at the field and most people were gone already. The roads were fully packed and that was the time we needed food in our car, but we didn't =.=... Sigh.. Didn't have food at the wrong time.

This experience really made me think about how fragile life can be. While I was under the table, honestly, I didn't know when it's going to stop or how bad it can get. It felt like the whole house was going to crumble or something. This shelter thing in school crumbled. It was near the playground, the place where the kids usually are. Imagine if the quake happened during break time. How many people would've been under it and got hurt? Luckily it happened after school and the kids were already at the carpark waiting to be picked up. My brother and his class was supposed to go through it to the Indonesian classroom where they were supposed to have TOK lessons. Good thing they were all lazy...hahaha... they were walking slowly, and my bro's friend asked him to wait for him while he tied his shoes. If not for that, my bro, being the monkey as usual, would've been under it cuz he was running. There was a girl who got hit by some brick thing. Cuz one of the staircases had some bricks stuff near it and it sort of crumbled too. She wasn't injured that badly though.

Anyway, I've never seen that whole street full of people before. Everybody was out of buildings and stuff. I was stuck in the middle of the traffic for an hour. It was crazy...

One guy died, not cuz he was hit or buried or whatever. Cuz he was shocked, had a heart attack and died. It sounded funny to me at first. I mean seriously. But that's the truth. People actually die cuz of things that are not usually associated with the natural calamity.

Be glad you're in singapore. No typhoon, no tornado, no earthquake, no wildfires, no drought, no flood, no tsunami. And another country that's like heaven on earth, is Switzerland. Do you realize? It's not threatened by any kinds of natural calamity, no terrorists, no political conflict with other people, no corruption, no pollution, and the country's rich. And most importantly, they've got first class quality chocolate. How fair is that?

Love you guys, no matter what happens. ♥♥♥
